Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger Congratulates Members of the Gulf Coast Petrochemical Group on EnergyVenture Camp!

Gulf Coast Petrochemical EnergyVenture summer camp for kids!Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger would like to let you know about a wonderful summer camp for youth that is held every year in the Texas Gulf Coast region.  It’s called EnergyVenture, a summer camp for youth which is focused on the energy industry and the career opportunities it holds.

The camps are supported by members of the Gulf Coast Petrochemical Information Network (GC-PIN). Camps are held in community colleges in the Texas Gulf Coast region: Lee College (Baytown) and San Jacinto College (Pasadena and Houston).

“This is a scalable, sustainable program and can be replicated efficiently helping to fill the pipeline of future workers. Through a host of activities, the camp exposes students to the variety of career opportunities in the energy industry,” says Linda Drobnich, Senior Business Development Manager at San Jacinto College.

The program is designed for young people to learn while having fun. They perform lab experiments, win prizes for “best in class” team efforts, take a “behind the scenes” tour of an energy-related production facility and hear from guest speakers currently working in the field. The likelihood of these individuals staying in the Gulf Coast region to meet the future employment demands due to growth in the industry and retirement of current workers is greater if they know they have good employment choices in the region.

The concept for the camp came into fruition based on the State of Texas Industry Cluster Initiative Report and the East Harris County Manufacturing Association’s research. The study indicated there is a lack of awareness by young people of the good paying, high skill jobs that are available in the energy industry.

The program has a unique component for its participants. The EnergyVenture students aren’t attending camp just once – EnergyVenture’s goal is to bring them back in February for an annual reunion, and keep them moving forward in the program each winter until they’re ready to interview for a job in the energy industry. It’s not a one-time summer camp experience – the program is fostering students along a careerGulf Coast petrochemical industry group sponsors EnergyVenture summer kids camp.path to the Gulf Coast’s energy industry.

Gold Level sponsor Shell along with other companies and foundations provide scholarships for students to attend the camp.  Visit here to learn how to register for EnergyVenture Summer Camp 2012.
