Pressure Vessel Manufacturing Overview

Pressure vessels are used to store and transmit liquids, vapors and gases under pressure in general. The pressure of these finds will expert pressure equally in all direction on the walls and ends of the pressure vessels. Because of the internal loading, stresses are induced on certain sections of the cylinder walls.

Pressure vessels are generally used in engineering practice to store fluid, i.e. liquid vapors and gas under pressure.  And there are basically two main types of pressure vessels:  either according to the open/close of the end or to the dimensions.

According to end construction, the pressure vessels may be of open end or closed end. Due to the fluid pressure circumferential or hoop stresses are induced in case of open-ended vessels where as longitudinal stresses in addition to circumferential stresses are induced in case of closed ended vessels.

According to dimensions pressure vessels may be of thin shell or thick shell. The deciding factor among thin and thick shells is its wall thickness an shell diameter. If the ration is less than 1/10 it is said to be a thick shell. Thin shells are used in boilers tanks and pipes whereas thick shells are used in high pressure cylinders, tanks , gun barrels etc.

Storage Tank Manufacturer with Custom Fabricated Jackets

Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger has manufactured storage tanks and storage tank jackets since 1962.  That is 49 years of storage tank manufacturing experience. 

Tank jackets are used to heat and cool the contents of a storage tank or pressure vessel.  That’s the simple definition of a tank jacket.  A jacket is a cavity external to the vessel that permits the uniform exchange of heat between the fluid circulating in it and the walls of the vessel.  Jacketed vessels can be employed as chemical reactors (to remove the elevated heat of reaction) or to reduce the viscosity of high viscous fluids (such as tar).  Agitation can be also used in jacketed vessels to improve the homogeneity of the fluid properties (such as temperature or concentration).

Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger is pleased to announce the arrival of Randall Beatty as the new Production Manager at Bendel Tank & Heat fabricator hires Randall Beatty as new Production Manager May 1 2011.Bendel.  Randall brings many years of successful production, resource and team management experience in our field to Bendel and we are very excited to have somebody of his caliber on our team!

Pressure Vessel Manufacturing & Fabrication Leaders to Meet at PVMA in Fall 2011

Pressure Vessel design and fabrication from Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger.Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger enjoys keeping our customers and website visitors up-to-date on key industry events and meetings as they pertain to storage tank, pressure vessel and heat exchanger fabrication and manufacture organizations.  This particular post is an update on the PVMA Fall 2011 meeting in Columbus, OH, September 26-27, 2011.

Regularly scheduled PVMA meetings serve as a focal point for programs and activities. PVMA meets at least two times each year. The annual meeting, usually held in March, blends three days of business and leisure activities at a resort location. A one-day business meeting is held in September.

Regular business is the focus of each meeting. Business is conducted by committees and special interest groups. All members have an opportunity to participate. The committees and groups address the issues, discuss industry matters and recommend direction for the Association.

There are two key working groups: The Technical and Code Issues Group, and the Member Services Committee which addresses membership growth and benefit issues.

Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger Launches New Company Name and Creative Brand

Heat Exchanger Fabricator and Stainless Steel Storage Tank Fabricator Bendel Tank & Heat Exchagner.Bendel announced today that our company is launching a new name and a new creative brand as we move into the second decade of 2000!

“Our new company brand name will be known as Bendel Tank & Heat Exchanger,” said Bendel president Bill Beaver.  “Bendel has quickly grown to be known as a premier designer and fabricator of heat exchangers, and we needed to make a market adjustment to reflect our growing customer demand.”

Bendel began manufacturing carbon steel tanks in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1963 under the name of Atlas Steel Products Company. The name was changed to Bendel Corporation in 1982 when the manufacturing division was spun-off from the parent company. Primary ownership has never changed hands to date.

“In recent years, we have seen a growing demand from new and existing customers for our custom heat exchanger engineering design and fabrication product,” Beaver says.  “Bendel has invested in state-of-the-art milling and drilling machine designed to provide close tolerance machining of tubesheets used in the manufacture of our custom Shell & Tubesheet Heat Exchangers.”

Bendel uses the Quickmill Intimidator as the superior solution for large part machining and drilling accuracy. Pressure Vessel Fabricators – The Science Behind Pressure Vessels

We received some great comments and feedback from our article on the “science behind Heat Exchangers” that we posted on our blog a week ago…so we’re going to discuss about the “science behind pressure vessels” this week!

A sealed container that is intended to hold liquids or gases at a different pressure from the atmosphere around it is known as a pressure vessel. Contemporary boiler pressure vessels are typically composed of steel. Older boiler vessels were composed of wrought iron, copper or cast iron, and held together by rivets.

All Bendel Pressure Vessels and Reactors are designed and fabricated in strict accordance with ASME (Section VIII, Division I). ASME vessels can be fabricated from Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel or Nickel Alloy materials.

Bendel Corporation pressurized pressure boiler used in a heat exchanger application.Boiler pressure vessels, if punctured or flawed, can cause serious and even fatal accidents. This is a result of the difference in the pressure levels between the substance inside the container and the substance outside the container. If breached, the danger lies in the reaction, as the substance inside the container regulates to the same pressure as the atmosphere outside the vessel.

If the substance inside is compressed, and stored at a higher pressure than the air outside, the substance will rush outwards if the vessel is punctured, creating an explosion. If the substance inside is at a lower pressure, it will create a suction effect if punctured. Pressurized containers can also create explosions if exposed to excessive heat, or other adverse conditions.

As a result of these hazards, extensive laws govern pressure vessels. The laws that regulate pressure vessels are carefully enforced by engineering authorities for the safety of operators, as well as the general public. These laws regulate the design and manufacture, as well as the operation, of pressure vessels.

Boiler pressure vessels are used to produce power by creating and utilizing the energy provided by the creation of pressurized steam. In order to create this reaction, a source of heat is applied to the boiler. The boiler is kept partially filled with water. As the water evaporates and becomes steam, pressure within the boiler vessel rises. The highly heated and pressurized steam provides energy for a number of applications, including early locomotive trains and steam ships.
